As part of the ongoing work and activities under the “Strengthening the Rule of Law in Iraq” project, implemented by the Investigator Organization for Supporting Rule of Law and Democracy (IOL) in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) and the Maff Network, with financial support from the European Union (EU), a conference was held on 10 December 2025 to announce two new reports.
The conference was attended by a large number of experts, representatives of government institutions, civil society organizations, and international and local organizations.
First: “Report on Standards and Best Practices for Fair Trial in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region – 2025”
This report highlights key international standards for fair trial used to ensure the conduct of a fair trial. It also reviews best practices applied globally and outlines ways to adapt and apply these practices in line with the context of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Second: “Second Monitoring Report on the State of the Rule of Law in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region – 2025”
This report builds on the First Monitoring Report on the State of the Rule of Law, published in 2024, and highlights the key developments and challenges facing the rule of law in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
