Legal Awareness Session Held in Sulaymaniyah to Combat Early Marriage

Within the framework of the “Reducing Early Marriage (Marriage Under the Age of 18) in the Kurdistan Region” project, the Investigator Organization for supporting role of law and Democracy (IOL), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and with financial support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), conducted a legal awareness session in Sulaymaniyah on 23 September 2023, as part of its ongoing series of legal awareness sessions for respected religious teachers.
More than 25 religious scholars participated in the session, during which the applicable laws of the Kurdistan Region relating to the reduction of early marriage were discussed. The session also addressed the prevention of concluding marriage contracts outside the courts, with the aim of reducing early marriage and child marriage.
