As part of the implementation of the “Reducing Early Marriage” project, the Investigator Organization for Supporting Rule of Law and Democracy (IOL), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and with financial support from UK Aid, conducted another legal awareness session for religious leaders in Amedi District on 29 June 2024.
The session aimed to raise legal awareness among religious leaders and highlight the importance of complying with legal procedures when concluding marriage contracts, particularly refraining from concluding marriage contracts outside the courts, thereby contributing to efforts to reduce early marriage in the Kurdistan Region.
The session was attended by Mr. Jaafar Shaban Hamo, President of the Amedi Union of Scholars, and Mr. Hakar Abdul Salam, Director of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in Amedi District.
The activity forms part of the project’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the role of religious leaders in raising community awareness and supporting efforts to reduce early marriage in the Kurdistan Region.
