As part of the “Reducing Early Marriage in the Kurdistan Region” project, the Investigator Organization for Supporting Rule of Law and Democracy (IOL), in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and with financial support from UK Aid, conducted a legal awareness session in Erbil on 19 May 2024, as part of a series of legal awareness sessions for religious leaders.
The session was attended by Mr. Taib Zrar, Director General of Endowment and Religious Affairs in Erbil; Dr. Bashir Haddad, Chairman of the Speech Board at the Ministry of Endowments; and Colonel Safin Khoshnaw, Director of the Directorate for Combating Violence against Women and Family.
During the session, marriage and divorce statistics were presented, and the activities and work of the Directorate for Combating Violence against Women and Family were discussed.
The session forms part of the project’s ongoing legal awareness activities, which aim to enhance legal knowledge and awareness among religious leaders and strengthen their role in raising community awareness of the impacts and legal aspects related to early marriage.
