The Role of Forensic Medicine in Investigating Sexual Violence Crimes

A training session titled “The Role of Forensic Medicine in Investigating Sexual Violence Crimes” was held for two days on 31/8 – 1/9/2024, as part of the project “Providing Legal Services to Survivors of Sexual Violence,” in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and with financial support from the UK government (UK Aid). The session took place in Erbil and was led by (Prof. Dr. Yassin Karim Amin / Director of the Forensic Medicine Institute in Erbil). (15) judicial investigators and police officers participated in the training, which focused on the history of forensic medicine in Iraq and Kurdistan, the role of forensic medicine in investigating sexual violence crimes, the process of evidence collection in such cases, and types of physical injuries.
