Under the framework of the “Strengthening the Rule of Law in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region”
project, and under the patronage of H.E. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, Iraq officially launched its National Strategy for Strengthening the Rule of Law and Consolidating Justice.
🔹 The event was attended by:
- H.E. Dr. Khaled Shwani, Minister of Justice & Head of the National Team for the Strategy
- Minister of Interior of Iraq
- Chairman of the National Security Council
- Representative of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council
- Head Deputy Minister of Justice for KRG , RV Ms. Shilan Arif Barznji
- Senior officials from both the Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government
- Representatives from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA)
- Over 400 legal professionals, scholars, and experts
✅ The strategy was developed and documented by the Rule of Law Organization, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Justice and with financial support from NPA.
🎙️ Key Highlights from the Conference:
- Strong political consensus on the strategy’s importance
- Emphasis on its role in enhancing institutional justice and legal reform
- A call for addressing root causes of legal system challenges
- Recognition of the strategy as a foundational step toward long-term legal stability
🔜 Next Steps:
Phase Two will focus on developing detailed implementation plans in both Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region.
