Empowering Women in Leadership and Decision-Making: Innovative Initiatives and Advocacy for Change in Kurdistan

Within the framework of efforts to improve the situation of women, the Investigator Organization for the Rule of Law implemented a strategic project over the past three months entitled “Strengthening Women’s Position in Leadership and Decision-making Fields.”
The project was carried out in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah and included several training courses on key topics:
• Advocating for women’s issues.
• Developing women’s capabilities in political discourse.
• Deepening understanding of UN Resolution 1325 regarding women, peace and security.
A group of capable and courageous women participated in these courses and as a result, they were able to implement several innovative initiatives that originated from their own ideas. Among these initiatives:
• Using art (theater and visual arts) as a tool to convey women’s voices.
• Conducting a special seminar on ways to combat violence against women.
• Analyzing media influence on the image of women in society.
• Open discussions and surveys on the phenomenon of early marriage and its catastrophic consequences.
• A panel and seminar on protection from electronic harassment in the digital world.
• Advocating for amendments to the personal status law to prevent marriage of 9-year-old children.
On International Women’s Day (March 😎, we organized an important conference with the participation of several stakeholders. This conference became a platform for producing practical recommendations proposed by women to address issues that require new policy and planning formulation.
These efforts are part of the “Women and Peace” project implemented in partnership with Women for Women International (WFWI) and with financial support from the UK International Support Fund (UKISF).
