A workshop to build the capacities of member organizations in the MAFF network on the rule of law in Iraq and to developing a roadmap for the network.<\/h4><\/div>
The Investigator Organization for Supporting the Rule of Law and Democracy (IOL), in collaboration with Norwegian People\u2019s Aid (NPA), organized a two-day workshop on December 13-14,2024 at the (Van Royal Hotel) in Erbil, The workshop aimed to enhance the capacities of member organizations in the MAFF network to promote justice and democracy in Iraq, Representatives from several organizations supporting the rule of law attended the workshop, where a range of key issues related to the rule of law indicators in Iraq were discussed, with the ultimate goal of achieving a vision of a society governed by justice and the rule of law. The main topics covered during the workshop included:<\/div>
\u2022 The Role of Civil Society Organizations in Strengthening the Rule of Law: The workshop focused on enhancing the role of civil society organizations in supporting and strengthening the rule of law in Iraq. It also addressed the importance of community participation in building democracy through mechanisms that ensure equality and justice for all citizens.<\/div>
\u2022 Preparing a report on violations of the rule of law: In collaboration with member organizations of the MAFF network, work was undertaken to prepare the first comprehensive report on violations of the rule of law in Iraq, 8 international indicators were selected to measure the level of the rule of law. Each network was assigned to write a section on specific indicators, which were then compiled into a single report that will be published soon.<\/div>
\u2022 International Indicators for the Rule of Law: 8 international indicators were selected to measure the rule of law, covering various areas such as civil liberties, social justice, human rights, and judicial independence, these indicators serve as a global benchmark for assessing the extent to which the rule of law is upheld in Iraq compared to international standards.<\/div>
\u2022 Purpose of the Report: The report aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the state of the rule of law in Iraq, highlighting violations and challenges facing the enforcement of the law, while also comparing them to international standards.
